Not so regressive!

crying-girl

Yesterday read an article in Pune Mirror titled “A lesson in intimacy” in which leading child psychologists inferred that Parents getting intimate in the presence of children can negatively influence their association with the act. Even when the child co-sleeps with them as children are generally light-sleepers. In the same article, an event was cited where at a social gathering; a three year old boy addressed his mom as a ‘hot babe”, in which the father quickly admitted that it was the same compliment he gave to his wife earlier that day”.

The question is why I am citing these already published articles? The reason is I want to give a solid foundation to the argument I want to forward against the movies made now a days on the name of “Progressiveness” and freedom for speech and expression.

Now days you pick any movie, it is full of sequences which are not child appropriate, the movies are full of dialogues having double meaning. Film fraternity has an excuse that they already have certificates from censors, and hence they wash their hands from their responsibilities. Now days it is not necessary to go to the theaters to watch the movies, as every movie is accessible on net and on other media which are easily accessible to all. Kids are exposed to all those things which they are not supposed to know at this age. Film stars like  Deepika Padukone may call me regressive for this mentality but I want to tell her, the people in Film industry would find these movies progressive and according to the time because as they and their children are not normal citizens. Even for their birthdays, holidays they go abroad, they have no experience of the real situation of the people as they seldom step out of their fairyland life. They can even find weird excuses for naming their children with weird names of hated characters from history. It will be no surprise if  in future we find children of these super stars named as Ravan or Suparnakha !

The most of the Indians are living a life just to meet their ends meet. They are working day and night in their farms, as factory workers, as security guards, as laborers etc. Who are not even educated enough or have common sense that they can take a call that they should not produce more children as they do not have means to feed them. They do not have enough sensibility to understand these films which are made out of fantasy, of ultra-luxurious life, gangsters, rapist etc. They just follow the ways of superstars of films blindly. It is so evident by how the markets were flooded with dresses and accessories which our superstars wear in the movies.  The impact of the movies on common man is so eventual and evident.

Now think of the kids. I was surprised and deeply hurt by news in which a 4 year boy sexually assaulted his 4 year old female classmate. It is disgusting. Admit it or not, it is the effect of exposure of irrelevant contents to the children at so tender age which effects their mind and behavior.

The filmmakers make film claiming their freedom to right to expression. And exploit the tender minds. What is the need of making films on gangstars or other people, whether fiction or non-fiction? Even when they make a movie like Bhag Milkha Bhag on our national hero “Milkha Singh”, they have to put sexual masala. This clears the intention of the filmmakers. Why the filmmaker who are so aware of their own rights, do not feel themselves responsible for the future of these tender minds? I was amazed by the movie “Nil batte Sanatta” but such movies go unnoticed even when they carry such a beautiful message, why the powerful producers and directors do not endorse such movies and publicize them. Today a child or youth needs to be imparted with the sense of pride and self-discipline. They need to be imparted with morals. And movies can be a very important medium for this purpose.

The world is full of love stories, for a movie they can pick any of them. But when they chose National heroes like BajiRao or Padmavati, they should choose to show their valor and not their love interest which can impart morals and patriotism in the minds of the young generations.

The juvenile crime is on high. NIrbhaya case, recent Pradumanya case of Ryan international school brings chill down my spine. The films cannot be the only reason for this degradation in the morals of the society but it is one of the most relevant factors which cannot be used all the time on the name of freedom of expression and speech because these rights are not absolute rights they bring some responsibilities also.
